Normal in Nature, Questionable Everywhere Else

Here at Wild Women Journeys, we believe nature is the ultimate permission slip; to be wild, to be real, and to let go of the rules that tether us to “civilised” life. Out in the wild, things that would raise eyebrows back home suddenly make perfect sense. In fact, they feel right. Here are a few behaviors that are perfectly normal in nature... but might get you some side-eye at brunch.
1. Not Showering for Two Weeks (Because Waterholes Count, Right?)

When you're surrounded by cascading waterfalls and crystalline rivers, who needs a hot shower? In the wild, a swim in a waterhole is both a bath and a spiritual reset. But try telling your coworker that you haven’t seen soap in 14 days; cue the polite backing away. Out here, we glow, we don’t stink.
2. Getting Pee on Your Shoes and Squatting Behind a Bush
Let’s get real: when nature calls in nature, you answer. There's an unspoken sisterhood formed through shared squats and strategically chosen bushes. At home, not so much. There's no faster way to clear a trailhead parking lot than casually discussing “splash-back management.”
3. Random Dance Breaks (Because the Forest Doesn’t Judge)

When the campfire’s crackling, the stars are blazing, and that one song hits your soul, spontaneous dance breaks just happen. In the city, this might be “concerning behavior.” In nature, it’s a form of praise. The earth is your dance floor. The trees? Your biggest fans.
4. Eating Food with a Stick (And Calling It Gourmet)
Who needs cutlery when you’ve got a perfectly shaped twig and a flaming fire? Roasting veggies, toasting marshmallows, or poking at a mystery stew—everything tastes better when eaten with a stick. Michelin stars don’t apply here; flavor and freedom do.
5. Outfit Repeating x100 (And Proud of It)
In the wild, no one cares that you've worn the same pants for six days. Or that your “evening look” is just your hiking gear with slightly fewer burrs. Fashion rules fade when comfort and function take over. And guess what? You’ve never looked more you.
There’s a wild kind of magic that happens when we shed society’s expectations and return to our roots. What’s “questionable” everywhere else is sacred out here. It’s not about being messy, it’s about being real.
So the next time you hesitate to dance like nobody’s watching, eat with your hands, or go a few days without a proper mirror, remember this: what’s normal in nature is a kind of truth. And we are here for all of it.
